Biography of Serene Wee:

Serene Wee is the current Chairperson of the National Book Development Council of Singapore and the President of The Society for Reading & Literacy and the Chairperson of a writing group, WordWrights and a volunteer at the National Library Board of Singapore on literacy and reading programmes. She was Chief Judge for the First Time Writers & Illustrators Initiative in 2007 and was a judge again in 2008.


Serene taught English language, English Literature, General Paper and German as a foreign language and was with the Ministry of Education for ten years.


She has written, edited and published many children's books and short stories as well as non-fiction work. To date she has edited 16 issues of Reading Plus (magazine for children) and 6 issues of Snap Trap (magazine for teens) as well as 16 issues of A Good Read – a series of short story collection for age 10 to 13 year old.


Her published picture books include When Feet Talk (Causa Vera International), The Tale of Lady Cabbage (Tahanan Books) and Harry Straw Hat (Scholastic). Her first children's novel is entitled Present.

This is a series of workshops that Serene has created for children and teachers who wish to learn the fundamentals of writing for children. It includes basic training in writing picture books, short stories and chapter books.


She has provided training for schools and have helped both school children and teachers, taking them from the writing process, editing to publishing their book.  Please send an email to serenewee@causavera.com if you are interested in her training workshops.
